HEY GUYS! THIN KING ON BUILDING A 451 FOR MY 62 DART.
HAVE A 72 400 BLOCK{VIRGIN}
CAN GET GOOD DEAL ON KB 25130 PISTONS WHICH USE THE 400 RODS
GOT A GOOD 440 STEEL CRANK,ALREADY 030 ON THE MAINS ANYWAY
SHOULD I SEND THE CRANK IN TO BE CUT?
NEVER DONE ONE BEFORE,IS THERE MUCH CLEARANCING TO BE DONE ON THE BLOCK?
ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

you will need the crank cut by a shop that has done it before. my buddy did one a few years ago, he sent it to Hughes engines, they prepped the crank and sent it back. i think you may need to use BB chevy rods to make this work, but im not 100% sure, thats how my friends engine was set up. there will need to be some clearencing of the block for sure, its not a big deal.

The bb chevy rods are for the 468 & up motors when you use a 440 crank.

Using the stock 400 length rods and the kb251030 pistons will stil give you a 1.695 rod ratio which is still pretty respectable I think,compared to a chevy small block

With those pistons havin a quench pad that can be machined,you can get it under 11.0,and with the right cam shaft it will live fine on the 91....I hope:BangHead:
