Can anyone tell me if the Cummins 47rh fits any of the pre74 engines? I would really love to stick one of those behind a 440.

The Ultra Bell bellhousing or a adapter plate is the only way I know of. The other problem is low shift points for the diesel engine. The 47s use a bigger governor housing, the governor weights are different from the early models.
So I take it that no one has made a conversion for the governor on that transmission. Or building a 47rh that will contain the internals of the diesel transmission to handle torque while permitting operation into the upper rpm ranges of the 440. Where are all of the transmission swap engineers?

You can use governor off a 46rh and valve body too. I swiss cheesed the gov.weight on mine, but I still have to change the shift springs in the valvebody also. The 47rh can take the rpms, it just shifts to early. Like Mopar3B said, the 47rh from a V10 gasoline engine will have better shift points. Both trans. will not bolt up to a b/rb engine with out changing the bellhousing or a adaptor plate.

And the V10 transmission is capable of how much torque and hp?

The V-10 put out more torque (450 ft. lbs.) in 1994 than the Cummins. The trans can be modified to your requirements.
