62 Fury with 225/70/15 tires (pictures of front fender/ lower valance clearance)

Common problem. Here's pictures of my '62 Dodge and a reply that looks like the Plymouth. Same size tires. I didn't modify my fenders and never had a problem rubbing yet. When the car is jacked up it looks closer than when the car is on the ground.

62 savoy. Currently has 215/65x15s on it, so don't go by that. A previous owner relieved about an inch and a half from the valence, more material removed toward the inside. I can run a 235/75x15, 29" tall, without rubbing the fender..... it only rubs on the header tube approaching full lock. The 235s are on the tt2s in the last pic. 15x7, 4 or 4.25 bs, don't remember exactly.

Thanks guys. I was planning on 235/70/15 or 235/60/17 with a diameter of 28"...but on all four corners. But I'm starting to think that 225/70/15 or 225/60/17 about 27.5" diameter might be a better choice. Not sure if I want to trim the valance panel end caps, just for larger tires. My current size is 225/60/15 25.6" diameter just looks to small in the wheel well opening.

Thanks guys..I don't really want to modifiy the valance panel if I can avoid it. It's not a high value car, but still would like to keep it as Plymouth built it.

In that case, I would run 215 or 225/70x15 front. But I would run as tall a tire as I could on the back. Typically, the closest point is on the leading edge of the wheelwell. I would run a 255/70x15 on the back. (That's what I have on the back with my street steelie setup).

I'm sure with all the " ground pounding, tire ripping" power from my 2 barrel 318 Poly, I'm going to need the largest tires I can get under th rear ! These guys around here are going to learn the hard way That Im old and I'm OK with that.

With your ground poundin 318 poly, the tall tires on the back would be to fill out the outrageously long wheelwell openings on a 62. Appearance only. Imo, the 62s look terrible with anything as small as what they came with.

I agree about small diameter tires. When I bought the car it came with 225/60/15 =25.6" on all 4 corners. They need to be larger to look more correct.c

Rusty, Talking about old,, In high school a guy named Danny had a 63 Polara Poly 318 2 bbl.
He would round the corner and do the best burnouts at the bus stop. Daily !
Thanks for the memories !!

Can anyone snap some pictures of 62 Fury front fender/ lower valance clearance with 225/70/15 tires ?
These are 215-70-15 with Cooper GTs. I believe they are around 26.5” OD. I have a set of 8.25-14 bias ply that are around 27.3” OD and personally I would not go bigger than those on my car.
