I have had an issue with my fuel and temp gauge not really working all that often (although they do once in a while). Recently I just bought a solid state relay from RTE (highly recommended from what I hear), and hope it will fix my problem.

Attached is a picture of the back of my instrument cluster board. Is there something I need to watch out for when putting this in? It's the exact same style as the OEM regulator.

The green wire I am assuming needs to stay where it is, and be connected where originally connected at the copper trace terminal close by. The white wire shown was connected where I have the red line, and the other end was stuffed into the same pin as the ground on the regulator. Is this wire/connection absolutely needed? There is a ground from the dash housing connected to the terminal where the red line goes as well.

I am no good with electrical stuff so if anyone could guide me a bit I would really appreciate it...especially if you have a similar panel with the RTE upgrade installed.

Thanks,
Jeff

your temp and fuel gauges are not working for one of 3 reasons...BAD SENDING UNIT...BAD GROUND OR BAD GAUGE. If your oil gauge was working and the twist in dash lights were working.... its not the voltage limiter.( if you have an oil gauge)

oil ,fuel, and temp gauges and twist in dash lights work off of this limiter( the thingy with the 3 prongs on it( its a step down transformer that takes 12 volts to 5 volts.) the alt gauge DOES NOT. i would have started with the sending units and grounds first....but while you have that thing out why not just rebuild it. theres a way to check the volt limiter with everything in tact....its alot of typing but if you need to know how i will explain it to you. just let me know and ill type it all out if you need it.

back on your gas tank there should be a weird looking clamp like thing that attatches to the fuel lines . this thing is a ground strap and jumps the small piece of rubber hose on the gas tank and grounds the sending unit to the frame. make sure thats clean and has good connection. sometimes people lose these and use a legnth of bare wire and 2 small worm clamps in its place.

temp gauge....same thing...DO NOT EVER PUT TEFLON TAPE ON THE TEMP SENDING UNIT OR THE OIL SENDING UNIT !. the threads ground the sending unit to the block and may not work if theres tape on there. check for broken wires also...they like to hide. if it was working " sometimes" then it will work again. i just went all thru this on my 70 RR .

GOOD GROUNDS GOOD GROUNDS AND CLEAN CONNECTIONS,,,, is the key. hope this helps ya!
