Hey gang, I have a couple of questions and need some advise. I just took my 383 engine and trans out to be redone. Its an original 383 push button car and a convertible. I have a650 HP 500 stroker sitting here that I had planned on installing into this car, once it was detuned for the street.

However, after my search for a car, ended up with this 383 vert, I have decided to use it.

Now I want to get a few more HP out of it and make it very reliable. In all of my previous cars, I only had one 383 in a 68 RR and it ran to good to rebuild.

So, what rebuild kit do you guys reccomend and or do you think some sort of stroker kit is in order?

Who can give me a link to some decent rebuild kits. I am only guessing that it was need to go 30 over, but once its apart I will know more.

I will be trying to find another 63 DODGE/ PLYMOUTH for the big motor, so I dont need this to be a super fast car or another big motor car. I just want some addtl HP and a very reliable motor that I can take any where.

Also, I was going to use my original trans as a core for a new rebuilt warranty trans that I can get via a hotrod buddy who has connects to a guy who does all sorts of old school trans under warranty? Am I ok in doing this or should I just have the guy rebuild this trans if possible.

give me some ideas on the build please. I am going to swap out all the brakes to new disc brakes, new power boster, master cylinder. The car is a power steering/ brakes car. and I have a brand new edelbrock 650 sitting here as well and electronic ignition both in the box that I was planning on using.

HOW DID YOU DO YOUR 383 AND ANY PICS OF THESE OLDER ONES AROUND HERE? BLUE OR ORANGE WHEN REBUILT? I LIKE THE ORNAGE BUT THE BLUE WAS STOCK.

Turquoise was the original color, not blue...

A 63 383 should have 516 closed chamber heads which is a good thing for hp. This is what I would do. Bore it 30 over, add some 9.5:1 flat top pistons for streetability, a good mid-range street cam, use an aluminum dual plane intake with your 650 carb, rebuild your heads to stock specs, use your ele. ig setup, add a set of headers and you should have a healthy street motor.
