I am having problems with the wipers function (or lack of function) on my 64 fury. The motor is a single speed with only a black/white tracer and a dark blue wire going to it and the original switch is designed for that motor. (different than the multispeed switch). Anyway when I turn on the wipers they go part way and stop. wait a few seconds and then go a little further. SOmetimes I have to turn the switch on and off multiple times to get them to complete a cycle. When you turn the switch off they will eventually park in the correct position. I noticed that every time they stop intermittently there is a "switch" noise like a circuit breaker makes when it make/breaks. I have read that 99% of the time these are grounding problems so I ran a separate ground wire from the neg terminal of the battery to the motor mounting frame and even to the switch body itself but that didn't change anything. I did notice that the motor, while running does try to torque the mounting frame a little , so am wondering if these have to be aligned somehow. (there doesn't seem to be anything bent though)..Anybody have any suggestions? I took a good multispeed motor and switch from a donor car I have and am thinking of putting them in the fury...but whata pain in the *** that job is..Im a good mechanic but electrical problems are my nemesis. Thanks...Dan

Are you sure its single speed ?? I only ask because I have never seen a single speed wiper motor in a Mopar. I have only always seen 2 or 3 speed wipers. Also most wiper switches have a circuit breaker in them. Not sure if this does but most cars I have worked with have a circuit breaker in the wiper switch. I have a 63 wireing book here as I will try to dig it up and look at the wireing as maybe the 63 & 64 are the same. Ron

Can´t say for sure if my wiper motor is a single speed, but my switch is, only one speed. Have a 64 Belvedere.

The only reason I think it is a single speed is because it only has the 2 wires going to it. Most multi-speed motors also have a green and yellow wire. The switch is smaller in diameter and does not have a circuit breaker..only 4 terminals on the back also....my wiring diagram also shows a tan wire off the back of the switch and that wire is not in my configuration either...I have no reason to believe this isn't the original switch or motor. If you don't mind looking at your wiring diagram, I would appreciate it. Thanks for your reply

These might help...

Thanks Miller for sending me this. It is much more comprehensive than the diagram that I downloaded on-line. Funny thing though..I have seen comments of how elementary and simple 60's wiring was. There is nothing simple about it in my opinion. It would really be nice to know which wire colors were used for hot wires. From what I can gather from studying this is that black was always hot and pink also?

Glad to help. Think it was Allpar website, where I found those wiring diagrams. (I also picked up a 65 model service manual, since no 64 in sight. Much of the 65 stuff is close enough to use.)

Just looking at the black and pink your asking about, the black could be the hot lead from the switch to the wiper motor.
Tracing the pink back, you'll see it 'tags' onto other wires, that go to the ignition switch. So, pink is your source hot wire.

Though, to get a complete picture, trace each wire for the wipers, to better understand what goes where.
