Hello all, I'm the proud owner of a 1964 Polara 500. This car has been in my family for about 10 years ever since my mother purchased it sight on seen at a recycling center. The car's last tags are from 1974 and the original drive train was robbed long ago. The current drive train is a 318 auto out af a mid 80s Ram. The car needs total restoration, which I plan on beginning soon, but here's the major challenge: I want to get this car running and driving in one years time for less than 3K. The major repair needed is floors, 53 years of Ohio weather has not been kind to this poor car, and the drivers seat has fallen completely through and I'm certain that the carpet is holding the floor together. Hopefully, with help and advice from you all, I can get this old mopar on the road once more.

Welcome Alec. If you can do this work yourself it will save you a bunch $$$$$$.

Thanks for the warm welcome you guys. Does anyone here know how to decypher fender tags? I'm dying to know what this thing had factory.

Welcome!

Post of pictures of your fender tag and someone will be able to tell you about it.

Do you have a welder? Can you do the floor repairs yourself? If so, AMD has some sheet metal. Also check with Joe Suchy. He specializes in these cars. First person i go to for parts. I say get the car structurally sound, then safety, brakes, suspension, etc. Then get it running. Save those console parts. Can be very expensive to replace. And welcome.

Welcome and good luck.Don't lose hope and your car will come together in time.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I'll be starting the build soon (father finally agreed to let me do body work so long as I make dean's list). As for the welder, I plan on getting a portable MIG welder to do all the welding myself. I'll post a picture of the fender tag soon, and I all think I have my concept for the finished product in mind, a retro-mod gasser. So if anyone has information on straight axle conversions, I would love to know.
