I'm looking at buying a 66 charger with a 440 I'm going to look at it tomorrow,he's asking 5,000 for it,I can't get the pictures from my phone to the computor,it has a fresh paint,it only needs carpet and seats, motor and tranny rebuilt. My question is is there anything in general I need to look for in these cars? Thanks for any help.

The 1st gen bodies held up fairly well, But check anyway to see if you have rot in the trunk , lower rear quarters and chassis. If the body is sound check the condition of the Dash gauges, Light up ? Also you want to be sure the Charger is Complete, Trim and all Don't ruish into a deal until you've done your homework, These cars cost a little more to restore. If the trim is all there and it's in decent shape, you're good.
Just remember, If your planning to restore it it could get very $$ and in some cases it may be worth while looking for a 1st gen that has already been restored, Could save you a pantload of cash. But if your heart is set on restoring the Charger at hand Go for it ! Theres a lot of good info out there as well as plenty of people on the forums that will help you on your way.
it's nice to see another Charger return from the grave.

rear lower quarter panels behind tires are prone to rusting out...as is the trunk floor. Front floor pans are bad often as well due to wiper pivots leaking.

This is one of the hardest cars to restore, I have 2, it's a pain

440's did not come in 66 Chargers...what did it have originally for engine?

Chrome around the outside of car is very hard to come by...and interior pieces are even harder....

expect to be prepared to dump a lot of money into the electrical on these cars...rotating headlights, dash gauges and dash lights are the 3 biggest problem with these

you can contact me at [email protected] if you need anything further

$5000 is a fair price for a complete good body 66 Charger but $4000 is even better !, What color and motor does it have ? Auto or stick ?
Make sure it has a fender tag.

Thanks for the help guys I will let you know what I make out when I get back this afternoon.

Went and looked at the 66 and there were somethings that didn't sit well with me,1 whoever did the body work sucked you could see where it was repaired,2 I think it was wrecked pass. side hood, fender, and door lines were out of wack bad,3 somebody put a sun roof in it.So I'm just gonna leave this one pass. Thanks again for the help.

If the guy won't have cut the roof and put a sun roof in it,and i think it was wrecked by the body lines.I like the look of the 66 67 chargers,if those 2 things would have been alright,I would have jumped on it.
