Hi all i just picked up a 66 coronet 440 project car (basket) its currently dissasembled and the body is at paint right now. I want to start collecting parts to get the car running. I want the car to be a good fun cruising car, able to cruise down the freeway, that idles almost stock drives almost like stock but has a butt load of power when I need it. So this is what I am looking at building. Anyways I am starting with a 69 440, scat rods, studs and girdle, TRW forged pistons should be 8.2-1, steel crank. 906 heads, stock size valves, with some mild port work, hydraulic cam 228at .050 int and exhst, .492lift on a 113lobe sep. M1 single plane 48lbhr injectors, megasquirt, 1000cfm tbody, Custom log manifolds, single masterpower t76 Q trim with 1.00 a/r. I also have a nice water to air intercooler I might try out if I have enough room.
The trans is a 727 that will be getting performance rebuild with a mild shift kit, 2400 stall converter, and the rear will be an 8 3/4 with either 2.76 or 2.93 gears, cant remeber wich right now. the car is getting mini tubs and relocated springs. tires will hopefully be 325/45/17 drag radials My goal would would be to run in the 12s or faster and still be able to cruise on the hiway.
So what do you guys think? Shold it do what i want?
Thanks

Those gears not going to help you in achieving the 12's. Highway use, Yes, but your get up and go is not going to be there.

I don't know much about the turbo your running, but what type of exhaust temps are you expecting? You might need high temp rated valve seats and valves?
Also, close off the exhaust crossover in the heads or the intake will get pretty hot.

If I was you I would keep it simple. These cars ride like a dream and are great to ride in. We have a 67 that we built for my son and its a little wild for him. He drives with hand controls and has a little trouble. After watching him I think you don't need much to enjoy you car. Besides gass is a problem anyway. Good luck and remember "Its not a car unless its got a star!" Hemihenry

I have a buddy in KC that runs a 80 Zephyr wagon with a turbo 351 and an Accel FI setup. The car is nothing short of amazing. He get's probably 18-20 MPG on the highway (driving like a sane person) can bring home a load of groceries and run mid 10's at the track. Just this last weekend he tried some E85 with boost and fuel curve to match and went 10.06. Just frickin' amazing. He knows my car and says if I put a mild turbo on it I can run 10's in my 440 powered 3700 lb car and not break a sweat.

If you want to build a CHEAP effective normally aspirated car that will probably run 80 K miles with only regular maintenance and give you some nice results look no further than my 66 Bel. My data is posted in the "12 second combo" thread.

Love the STR setup!! If you know where I can find an inline dual quad top let me know. I have a buddy looking for one.
