67 440 ID Info

I’m trying to understand the details on my 440 and could use some help decoding the info on the ID pad. From info I found on moparts.org I believe the C440 means it’s a 67 440 block but I don’t know what the “iron cross” symbol or the “12” “23” “2” numbers mean.
Any info would be appreciated!

Maltese Cross=...........0.001" undersized crankshaft
Maltese Cross + X=......0.010" undersized crankshaft

2 = second shift
Maltese cross = .10 under size bearings.
There is no HP so it wasn't a high performance engine.

Just to clarify, .010 inch undersize crank bearings or .100 inch undersize? Any idea of the reason for the undersize condition?

I don't see an X so it's not .010... It is .001..... It's certainly not .100.... And usually it's not all the journals just one or two & that info will be stamped into the front counter weight on the crankshaft...

Ok, thanks. Sounds like it’s just because of a mfg tolerance issue and they just stamp to identify it.

Sorry, no... Chrysler would stamp the Maltese cross to inform of a .001 undersize bearing... A .010 undersize bearing was identified with the Maltese cross plus an X....

Remember they were stamped. Looks to me to be the same, just one not struck as hard.

If my eyes haven’t deceived me, it has .20 oversized pistons.

P = premium fuel recommended
R = regular grade fuel may be used
S = special engine
WT or TW = water test
X = oversized valve guides
