OK so over my years I have built engines but have always been Chevy engines. This is my first Dodge build. Well its not really a full build as the engine has already been rebuilt and has very little milage on it but its basically stock 79 440. I just plan on intake cam and headers. So I purchase a Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake Manifold 7193. Might be going with a TTi shorty header. Just trying to figure out a cam.

Now I am not sure how the 440 reacts to certain cams , but just looking for a street cam, little lumpy idle, good for in town and hwyway driving. Running a 727, gears might be 342 I will see but not much lower than those.

The first one is about the tiniest cam I've ever seen.. no.
Second one is not bad but has a pretty big seat duration for the .050 duration.

The post had a reference to a member who sells old school lifters, you could also give Crower themselves a call and see what they recommend. Unlike lot of the others, they are still owned by the same company that founded them 70yrs ago, so they might have a set floating around.

The second cam is pretty close to the 383 RoadRunner/SuperBee and 440 Magnum piece. It gives a nice lopey idle and lots of vacuum for power brakes. A good street cam.

First cam could use a narrower LSA for the low compression ratio of 79 440. And the second cam has a little to much duration but a better LSA. I think Comp K21-221-4 might be just right.

Well the Crower cam got sold so that one is out of the question now. Didn't think it would sell in one day but oh well. So now will have to decide on something else.

Thanks
Bruce

The Monarch specs are very close to the Comp Cams 270 Magnum cam, a good choice for your needs.
