69 Charger Bumper Jack Retention Spring Installation

What was supposed to be a quick install of the spring to start finishing off the trunk, ended up consuming my effort for 45 minutes without success.

Tried wedging it open with a large screwdriver, and fitting it over the hoop on the trunk floor - No success!

Tried holding it place and tried to tap it into place over the hoop - No success! (one tap, and the hoop bent)

Right now, the spring is winning this contest of wills, and I would like to believe I am smarter than the spring.

Anyone have a trick for opening up the circular end enough to get it over the floor hoop?

I will attack it again in the morning and continue on.

I’ve seen people slide it over the tire iron, and not the loop in the floor.
Not sure what’s correct.

One keystroke. Yes, the lug wrench goes through the loop in the spring.
