LOL,, yeap,, that's why i got rid of the other vettes and kept my first "CAR", only, 1968 427 black conv, red interior, all numbers matching, tank sticker. i did a NCRS, resto, on it,(almost done, 3 different paint shops in 15 years, all bad shops, i was young, paint shop HORROR, not everyone can do fiberglass.
),
i understand, what they are trying to do, but i have a friend with 4, yes four, 1967' 427 tri powers, stinger cars,, and you have judges, that have never owned a car... they are "numbers guys"...and the "experts" HA LOL

its like that in the WWII FORD GPW JEEP world,(all "F" SCRIPT marked PARTS) hence one reason i sold all my GPW's, slat grills, GP, and Mb's, well that and the "hat" channels with wood inserts are suckkyy to install.

i sold my WWII Dodge Command car (wc56, wc58's) mainly because they are a uncomfortable truck to drive(i'm over 6'), but i went to a show, and had a gentleman, tell me the there were no ground straps, in these locations, i kindly said, really, "where are they on yours? my other wc56 unrestored one back at my shop has them, there.." he didnt own one......another book worm.

i'm not saying i sell these cars because i can t take the heat, i was offered, way more then my asking prices, when the euro was crushing the dollar.

i buy these cars to enjoy, for myself, i take them to shows, so i can enjoy the other cars, and support the organizations, and take my 4 1/2 year old daughter out. i get embarrased when i win the big tropies, and they sit back in the back of the shop, or i re-donate them back, to them, so they can use them for another show. the truth is i love cars, all of them, i'm fortunate to have all the restoration equipment(paint booth, lifts, blasters) for my own use. would i like this "j" code, sure but it would be a money pit,(most likely a big loss) and i (everyone should)look at the value as an investment, for my family and daughter and if you dont your a fool. Why would anyone , LOOSE money on a car.... just because its a 'j" code or "r" code "v" code??? you mights as well start lighting $100 dollar bills.. or go to a casino, and pulll the $100 slots,, at least there is a chance there.... (you can buy a "r" code 428 SCJ mustang with # motor cheaper or a BOSS car with #motor, cheaper) ,

my only simple rule, for myself when buying is, X 10. if you buy a car for 15,000, is it going to be worth 150,000?,, or buying at $5,000, will the car be worth, $50,000 when finished. i do all my own work, so i dont have the $$$ shop bills. over charges etc.... FOr me if i stick to this, i'll be alright, a basic (non hemi and you have a motor/trans)restoration cost $20,000, in material.(if you have most of all the pieces)

lets do some math: J code, $15,000 purchase price x10=$150,000
will this car ever be worth $150,000.. NO, not with out its motor#
ok,
$15,000car
25,000 for motor
7,000 amd metal
5,000 interior items
5,000 paint material
3,000 other axle trans
5,000 other
$65,000 add $30,000+ in shop labor(if you had someone else do it)
$65,000-$95,000
the questions is for me is : is this car worth:$65,000-$95,000

i'd say you be hard pressed to get $65,000, and mind you that, that's break even.... not a good investment....
no motor, no FT, or BS, also...just a "j"

WELL< when i'm 6 feet under, she already knows to sell everything...and give my daughter the vette.. there are alot of good projects, out there, for sale, i have some spare cash, burning,, and was weighting all my options, of all the cars out there,, and yes the 68 was a bastard child, the 69 was a better car....
i rather buy a basket case, then a "done" car, because i enjoy the challenge, and enjoy doing them myself.. i rarely sell, but keep in mine your not only investing in something you love, but also your future, which is concrete, dollars and cents.. plain and simple.

Well said Mr. Vette. A much better post than the previous. 69 Runner is a good guy and if he hasn't been here or answered your pm's there is a good reason.
The GPW guys are really that uptight? You should roll a few Mauser rounds through the hood and ask them if that's authentic enough....
I was looking at WCs a while back and didn't run across one that fit my needs and price range. (Wasn't looking at going stock with it, either).
Good luck to you in your endeavours.

i have all the WWII dodges. a few of each model,
which one you interested in?

I disagree, I am not a fool. Flipping cars and looking for profits is not what I am into. I enjoy the hunt, the buy, the resto, and finally driving my ride when its done. Some people cant afford to buy a done car so we need to buy projects like this car. This car is a great car and really all it needs is the "J" in the VIN. Its not a Vet, the Mopars are way easier to authenticate. This hobby is not about money, well maybe for some, but I think $15K is very reasonable at this point and if it was $10K I know a few of us would have cut off an arm to get it, so that price would be way under value. In todays state of mind most people think if it doesn't sell in a week its over priced. I remember a day when it took me 6 months to 2 years to sell a car and I usually got what I needed for them. I also remember a day when there wasn't a bunch of rich investors drinking alcohol and bidding on muscle cars because it was cool and they want to show off.

"Flipping cars and looking for profits is not what I am into"

i'm not into that also,(flipping) you just have to look at as an investment..

"enjoy the hunt, the buy, the resto, and finally driving my ride when its done" "ENJOYMENT"does'nt pay the BILLS, or retirement, when things get hairy.. "GOOD Investments" does...

Would you build a 318 car? and do all the work? and money spent? a 318 car would be worth, pennies.. you could/would enjoy the 318 car.. but your losses at the end would be HUGE, even staggering. bad investment... we are just care takers of these cars...i just choose to be ahead of the curve i guess....and can see my wife's and daughters futures better when i'm gone. or my retirement, a bit nicer...

i'm interested in your 1969 Satelite Mod Top 383 auto, i have a 69 modtop blue, car, i bought as a project....

i'm looking at your list of cars,, some BIG winners(A12, and 4sp c ars), some clones(most likely a 318 car?) and some other 318 cars,, all enjoyable cars, no doubt, but i'd bet some of those SB, were "deals to good to let pass by" and some good 4 speed cars, always enjoyable. your investments look, good, and fun... and have great value...not that you give two sheets what i care...

If at $15K, if such a great deal,, it would be sold.... i'm not buying a (ENVELOPE CAR)vin tag with a J, for $15K, because it says 'J' obviously many other are not also... he's just fishin....which is just fine. last time i check, its still the USA, and NOT USSA.. at $15K, its a loosing investment,,at least for me.

really, the "vette" thing just lingers on every mopar site.... but i have tough skin.. and yes, i think there are more 1967-427/435 vettes, NOW , then when produced in 67'.. just like there are more Hemi cudas...now,, then in 70-71...

love to see pics of the MOD TOP..post a new thread.. i have two extra BS.....that are coming in with mine i bought.. yours??Q5

You CAN`T compare a Mustang to a 69 Charger or a HEMI car. No comparison unless you are drinking alcohol and bidding on cars just to show off your money.

yes, you can. you can compare any car that has a value based on production numbers.colors, motors/ trans, etc they do it all the time,,, at every auction.. if you had a million dollars to spend on cars, as an investment.. and a 100 cars to buy from, at an auction... you could pinpoint the good cars to buy,, whether mopar/ford/or chevy,, people are doing it all the time...called "DEALERS"
shelbys, 428 super coberjets, 429 KK mustangs, shakers, v codes, copo's, charger 500's , hemi's cars,,, you've watch some of the action,, and thought,, "HMMM that was a good deal"...

no different in real estate, business, schools for your kids, or any decision.., you look at pros cons and make your choice. based on ALL the information provided....
there are some acceptions,, YES, those heavy liquid lunch guys, with too much money then sense, and a hot bimbo, hanging on the arm.. called a "NICE piece of.....:bootyshake:" LOL

Its a cool car.... he should keep it. looks like he tried to sell it before?? august 2009? so its been for sale for almost 2 years. if that tells you anything..........................

"You CAN`T compare a Mustang to a 69 Charger or a HEMI car."

another foolish statement,,,, must be a MOPAR or NO CAR ... fan.

everything has a value, 50k is 50k, 100k is 100k.

based on past sales, and pedigree and purity and documentation.

people are buying low now, that can afford to.. and will sit on them till this market turns,, 2-5 years..

oh well,, off to bang on some cars....
