Does the Ignition switch have to be grounded in the dash to operate, Meaning I have power to switch at the plug, but nothing happens when I try to start the bird. I have ordered the new switch, but Im impatient wanting to start this new addition to the family. Car has been sitting 25 years, and is a real survivor without floors, LOL.

Where did you order the new switch from...? I'm looking for one too for. Y 68 GTX

Mr Moparts, every where else was sold out, it is the conversion kit from 69 to the older style 68, was suppose to be cheaper also had the door locks with it.

Don't be to impatient and start throwing money at your car. You will have plenty of time to do that. The ignition switch does not need to be grounded. It's job is to pass battery to some components (switched portion of the fuse panel, some lights, starter, ignition, radio etc.) via its different contacts. You said nothing happens. Are you talking about when the key is in the "on" position or when you are in the "start" position? Do any of the electrical components work? Rule #1 - When working on a cars electrical system, always check the integrity of the various grounds first and there are lots of them. Especially on a car that has set for 25 years.

The switch doesn't have to be grounded. Mine was hanging under dash for a couple of weeks while I was getting the tumbler rebuilt (the pins were worn out) and the car started just fine with the temporary aftermarket tumbler installed in the ignition switch.

If the starter won't work, check the starter relay on the firewall. I MUST be grounded in order for the starter solenoid to see power when you turn the ignition switch to start.

There are two ways that it's grounded.
If it's an automatic trans, the center pin of the back-up switch grounds the starter relay when the trans is in park or neutral.
If it's a manual trans car, the pin on the starter relay is grounded to the relay mounting bolt.

Sounds like you got the lock cylinders and not the ignition switch

It was ordered from Mr. Moparts it was 69 to 68 conversion kit Ignition and door locks. I found the problem, I needed the locks so I havent lost any money, but the Fuseable link appeared to be fine, but it had seperated inside the vinyl and you could tell it was bad until it was cut it open....... Thanks for all the Help
