Been coming to this board for years for advice so thought I'd finally join. Came by recently because my tires are about 20 years old and I'm shopping for some new ones (safety reasons you know). It's down to the ol' BFG Radial T/A vs Cooper Cobra GT dilemma. After reading many forum threads I feel like they are similar quality & ride, so I'm really just down to the looks. I like the BFG tread pattern & lettering, but I like the "squareness" of the Coopers, so I'm torn! Let me know what you think I should go with.

I’ve had good luck with the Cooper Cobra’s. Ten years old and still in good shape. They are on the back.

Oh… and welcome aboard! Beautiful Coronet!

I voted Coopers but I have never owned them. I have had 2 sets of BFG's and the darned white letters turn brown and nothing on the planet will clean and keep them white.

ANd I don't want anyone here to say Wesley's or whatever will fix the issue. BFG knows about the problem and have warrantied tires because of it.

I run Cooper Cobras on all 3 of my cars. I have no complaints whatsoever. Previously a BFG guy, but made the switch to Cooper 8 years ago.

Welcome to FBBO from NorCal Sierras
this really should be in a different forum section here
this is the welcome wagon, not really a Q&A or tech section

but; you asked I'll give my opinion between the 2

I've had BFG Radial T/As on most all of my street cars
a few 4x4s too (but seem to wear well)
not the best for traction with any real power, they handle relatively well
my 68 RR p245/60/15 front & p295/50/15 rears
but had good luck with them
(I've had a set on my RR for near 20 years, since Dec. 2005 no issues,
changing because of casing age
)

I just kept them clean & check the air a couple times a year
been garage kept all the time I've had it,
so no weather issues/dry rot or cracks, some seem to complain about...

I've had Coopers in 33x12s AT/MT on my old truck, 95 Power Ram
lasted barely a year, too soft, and wore out really fast,
just like the org. 31.5x10.5" Good Year Wranglers I had prior,
cupped/worn badly, on the windy *** roads up here...
Between the 2 sets only like 19k-20k miles (maybe a lil' more)
(no alignment issues or shock issues, I checked etc.)
I had them replaced anyway, got tired of the BS from the company...
I replaced them with Toyo Open County AT/MS...
(not a huge fan of the lettering either)

I have the same tires on my current truck, great tires
still lots of tread on them, 99 Dakota SLT 4x4,
Budnicks 99 Dakota 4x4 #1.JPG

20 years old now too, great tires 41k+ (60k on the truck) still 1/2 the tread left
need to be replaced because of the age of the casings, but great in snow or mud
been garage kept most their lives so no cracking or dry rot...

I Had Coopers Cobra GTs 60's/15" on Cragers on a 68 Barracuda,
383 4 speed I owned a while back, mainly because they were cheaper...
(live & learn)
I never got really good wear or life out of them,
squealed quite a bit while turning too,
not a bunch of straight open roads up here
Compared to my BFGs, not as good handling or wear/longevity
I don't like the raised white letters either on the Coopers
compared to the BFGs
but they were cheaper than the BFGs
But;
I wasn't satisfied with the quality, handling/esthetics or longevity myself...

Some seem to love them
I'm not one of them

good luck

I think it was @Jerry Hall who had some interesting pics of some BFG tires that let loose on him while just sitting.

That's a sweet Bee Devout Engineering Nerd (or whatever your Username stands for)

Welcome (2).jpg

Welcome from the former home state of your new neighbors. I'm a fan of Coopers, had them on my Coronet and have gone with two sets on my Cummins dually.

Beautiful ride! We need some more pictures of that beauty!

Greetings and welcome from NY.

For longevity I can attest to the BFG's. Even our work vans get nearly 50k miles on them before the need to replace.
But for appearance and "just the right tire for classic application" the Cooper Cobras seem to be the go-to for most folks I know.
Nice 'Bee BTW!

Welcome from the great white Canadian North!

I just put a set of Cooper's on my Coronet this year, I was replacing the 28yr old Goodyear Eagle ST's and wanted the same type of big blocky raised white letters and the coopers were the only ones that I liked. Personally not a fan of the BFG's.

Welcome from Alabama, I recommend the Cooper tires highly. I have had no failures with them, but can't say the same for the BFG T/A'S I have had 6 blow out just sitting in my shop.
