70 RR Pedals. Spring?

Thanks Dave, looking at that I've got to question what it would even do.. .other than an anti-rattle that I'd never hear over the engine.

Could the spring be for when they installed the booster at the factory to keep everything aligned for the bolts?

So the car I am working on is a 70 charger with power brakes. was always a power brake car. Now I think I got my brake issue almost solved, thankfully. But I am thinking the brakes are not releasing as quickly as they should. It feels like they stick a little bit. Now, the brakes were all redone and only have a couple hundred miles on them, all new springs on all 4 drums. I am going to check my booster push rod length this winter to make sure I set that right when I put the new booster on but I think I am missing a spring under the dash, and I dont know if that may be contributing to...

I think that the spring was an dealer installed part and is why it isn't shown in the FPM. If your pedal had a rattle then the dealer would install the anti rattle spring. Out of all the cars that I parted out probably less than a quarter of them had the spring.

Let's expand on that a bit.

The spring shown in your Dodge Chassis Assembly Manual is ONLY for power brakes.

The spring item number balloon is '19'.

The spring part number for item '19' is 2534228

This 'spring" is called "PUSH ROD SPRING"

How about pull up the brake pedal so the switch doesn't keep the brake lights on?

Ebay to the rescue, but call the vendor to confirm the spring you need. See pic below. You should call Craig @mobileparts
first though.

@A70Runner should confirm which spring to use for his '70 B-body.

It is expensive @davek , but @Charles Cook will tell you "not a problem" because Charger guys have deep pockets.

Better yet, call Brewer's Performance and ask about buying a spring only. They do brake pedal stuff in addition to clutch stuff.

Also, ask them what is the purpose of this spring.

This is a huge coincidence that this old thread was revived. Last week, I bought back a fantastic car (1970) that I reassembled back in the 90's and sold in 2000 because of a divorce. The car sat in a collection for 25 years with 0.0 miles since I sold it.

I started a to-do list prior to the car being delivered, and on my list is "brake spring". Back then, the spring was present, and I had no luck reattaching it, so it's just hanging there - still!

So thanks to all to this great info, I know where it exactly goes and kind of why it's even there! One thing off the list!

My Dodge chassis assembly manual does NOT show or call out a push rod spring for MANUAL brakes.

It's a '70 Plymouth, power brakes, build date of November 30, 1969, if this makes a difference. There is a groove in the shaft for the lower attachment of the spring. (I see that I must have been frustrated with this back in the 90's, because it's actually still just hanging there.)

I can't guess what it's for, but because it's pulling "up" on the shaft, I'm leaning toward anti-rattle. I also can't really tell if it's actually there for that reason, either, because the car had only been driven 1.1 miles since 1990, and was never under normal driving conditions.
