Tranny shop pointed out my torque shaft frame bracket has been broken/cut off and welded causing some shift issues because the alignment doesn't allow the correct adjustment. More I look I don't believe the torque shaft assembly is correct. I have a straight shaft and everything I see looks like the shaft should have a bend in it. Column shift. Trans is a 68, not a 71. Will the correct year assembly fit or is the 68 trans going to be an issue? Thanks everyone.

I have a 72 Charger with a 68 trans. I have the shaft with the bend in it. I assume somebody was trying to get the set up to work correctly thus the cut/weld job.

My problem is that the 68 trans doesn't have the mounting point on the trans body for the correct shaft mounts for a column shift. Mine is bubble gummed as well.

Good luck!

Thank you for the link. Nailed it exactly. 68 trans doesn't have the mounting point. Curious what the pre-70 linkage looks like. Guess the relationship between the steering column and the trans location must be that different.

Not sure if these pictures will help. I just replaced the shift linkage bushings on my 68 road runner last weekend.

Thank you. The torque shaft I have is the same, along with the matching frame bracket. On mine the frame bracket isn't attached in the normal spot though. It's welded on so it sits higher up. If I bolted it in the normal position I don't think the front rod from the steering column will reach. It works but there is a lot of flex in the frame bracket so there is some compromise between the gear indicator and the ability to successfully get the trans into park.
