72 Z code????

Early data books, order sheets and sales materials all show the 6bbl WAS going to be offered for 72. Early, like first week of production early, the engine was dropped due to not passing emissions standards. There are a handful (5?) of known 72 440-6bbl cars. There were supposed to be built and they were built.

BUT...if anyone claims they have an original 72 6bbl car built after the first week of production be prepared for serious scrutiny and likely a disappointment. Be prepared to offer a broadcast sheet, window sticker or rock solid documentation on the car.

No pics allowed = really suspicious. "Z" would not be necessary as "V" as already assigned to the 6bbl in 72.
Data books shows the four speed was to be N/A with 6bbl. 4bbl only.

Read SOMEWHERE about several 72s built in aug 71, preproduction cars, with majority of 71 equipment. November build makes a guy raise eyebrow for sure. NICE FIND!! GOOD LUCK, SWEET IF TRUE Z code car!!
ya .. this is why i ask .... more and more info points to a it not being a 6bbl car. .... but its on it .... and i love 4 speeds.

Found this over at the roadrunner nest:

No such package, there was never a package or option officially titled “GTX” for model years 72-74’. Simply, if you ordered a Road Runner with one of the optional 440 engines, the car was called a “Road Runner GTX” ,using the RM vin prefix, came with dual badging and a higher trim level similar to the 71’ “Satellite GTX”.

ya .. that part i did know and he was sure to tell me it was just a option package like the AMX was after 70. and judging by the grill and the little GTX on the fenders and the trunk and the rally dash bucket seat console kinda points that way. .... but the Z is what is buggin me

@hacksaw : you never know, Mopars are known to be 1 of 1s and then Executive special orders, then there is Mr. Norm: guy from club had 73 New Yorker with 440, Exec ordered car. Decades ago read about a Challenger in white with white RT striping and yellow/orange houndstooth cloth inlay interior, 1of1. Came to right place for research for sure. Bottom line, your call. GOOD LUCK

That Z wouldn't bother me at all; and it's an interesting novelty.

BTW, the banks open at 09:00 :poke:

Do you know that it's a factory 4 speed car?

Edit:
I see you said no A/C...that would be consistent with a factory 4 speed car.

Take a look at the differential while you're looking around underneath the car. Here's a good reference:

I’m thinking that even if it was originally a 318 automatic car, if it’s nice it’s probably worth the price equipped the way it is now as a clone. Unless it doesn’t run and would take a lot to put it on the road.

Sounds like son & g-son PERCIEVE the car worth "BJ" prices, BULLSHIT!! Shame, that car will sit & sit & NEITHER will get off their asses & "git-r-done". SHAME FOR THE CAR & YOU!!! Good for you to give it a shot to get it back to where it should be, ON THE ROAD.
