727 No second gear

The transmission has been rebuilt within about 10K miles. It has a shift package. Ran great, although, I would have to rev it up to get it to go from 2nd to 3rd.

No problems before the Nationals then at the Nats it wouldn't shift to 2nd. I tried reviing it in 1st then shifting to N and back in to D and that worked but it's precarious.

I'm planning a rebuild and just want to know if anyone has any experience with this kind of problem.

Other than the usual level and linkage checks, look at; anything to do with the kickdown band, sticking valve in either the vb or governor, check accumulator, and sealing rings in both reaction shaft and governor housing.

Strange. Never encountered that before. Maybe the kickdown band is too tight or sticking.
If you go from 1st to N you are by-passing the kickdown band.

Thanks! Not sure I made it clear that I bypassed 2nd altogether by revving it in 1st and going to N and back to D which put it in 3rd.

If it wouldn't shift into 2nd that would indicate the kickdown band wasn't functioning. I had it backwards. Forget what I said about a sticking kickdown band. The band would be too loose, not too tight.
