Yes they have had many different parts over the years and I have worked on a ton of them and fixed them for many years. And many had different governors in them that changed the shift points but I don't remember ever driving any stock trans whether a cop car or just stock trans that shifted real hard between shifts unless someone had modified it or it had a problem. We had some that banged into drive or reverse that we had to fix but any trans I found with hard shifting between gears either had a problem or had been modified by someone. I actually had a 4 cylinder Caravan used car that had been traded in and the salesman sent to the shop for hard shifts and I found someone actually modified it by removing the accumulator spring and blocking it. And they also changed the plate in the valve body. I thought why would anyone do that to a 4 cylinder Caravan ??? But with all the different applications of the trans I never saw or heard of a cop car or any Mopar car from the factory made to have hard harsh shifts. Only the factory race cars were modified for harder shifts. Heck most trans changes were for smoother shifts. But many had different shift points depending on the car or truck. And most different internal trans parts that the factory changed or updated do not affect shift quality and cause hard shifts as only valve body and accumulator parts would affect that or turning the line pressure up and modifying throttle pressure. Ron, I agree with most everything you said. The valve body, accumulator along with the combination of front servo lever ratio and front clutch spring combination also effect "shift quality". I didn't say the "cop" stuff shifted hard, the ones I had the HP style guts. The HP 727's did have a "firmer" shift than the low perf C body cars, but not really hard. My experience was, as you said "hard shifts" were from mis-matched modified trans parts and or adjustments.
