Pretty normal from check ball movement. I've personnaly never seen a plate failure in many yeasrs of building Torqueflites.

Thanks - went back through the parts my brother had in the trunk. I have another whole valve body and a plate that I appears to have been modified. I'll disassemble the spare and see if that one looks better.

I don't recommend swapping separator plates between different valve bodies, due to small changes in fluid channelling over the years. If you notice, most separator plates have an I.D. # on them that changes from application to application. Some of the holes can be opened up to increase fluid flow per B&M and other shift kit providers. I always clean up both sides of the separator plate with a fine honing stone.

Agree with above comments. They all look like that after years of use, not a problem.

Don't mix up any parts, keep them far away from each other.

I keep a stone in my wash tank to use on all flat machined surfaces and stuff like separator plates. It is about 5"x1"x2 1/2". That way I can use it wet.
