I have the sprag disassembled. I noticed marks that look like the rollers are digging into the holder. There's also some offset wear on the case. Is this wear normal? Trans has about 50k miles.

Thanks
Shane

I have seen this. It doesn't seem to bother anything, but I don't like the idea of it on my own car.

What do you mean offset wear on the case?

What are you using the car for? Any drag racing? Any burnouts? Or just driving on street.

Its mostly a street car with the occasional burnout and some spirited driving. If it sees the drag strip it will only be a time or 2.

Ive attached better pics of the wear.

Thats not normal. I would replace it. The rollers, spring plate, and springs. I do a ton of these. Never seen that before.

Cheap to replace while it's apart. Rear drum seats in the sprag. Any damage to it?

Ill check the rear drum this evening.
I see there's several different sprags available. Any suggestions on what i should use?

If the pocket is still tight, get the stock replacement.

At what point is a bolt in sprag necessary?
Never. But if you run a valve body with no low band apply the Super Sprag (based on Ford C-6) has more rollers for more holding power. The "bolt in " low roller assy's (Sprag) are designed to repair damaged cases. The offer no upgrade. The drum itself will be fine. Check the governor support as it's aluminum and the steel drum rides on it, not the sprag. Also look at the rear of the case where the inner race rides. See if the race has worn to case.

A&A sells a much better sprag assembly and by their bolt-in tool you'll never need another sprag

I've actually broken 2 of them. First one I found the cause. Roller bearing in the governor support was loose. After repairing the bgovener support I only replaced the springs and roller assy. Probably should've replaced the inner race. Put an inner race and another spring and roller assy after the 2nd failure. Been good since.

Sorry to hear that I know that you've always been faster than I've been and you have more torque and horsepower than I've ever ran with that said depending on your combination I've always had good luck with it in my case but my car is way different than yours
