Ok, folks. Just when I get my Charger exactly the way I want it, a friend comes along and says "You gotta get dual exhausts on that thing!" I know next to nothing about changing up exhaust... any tips, recommendations of where and what to buy, advantages of trading up would be much appreciated. My '74 is completely stock with a 318 except for new wheels... but 2 pipes sticking out of the back could be pretty sweet. Don't have a pic of the rear of the monster, but here it is from the side just to give you and idea of what I'm working with.

Thanks for the feedback, I always dig learning from the Mopar crowd!

duals are not hard to get from a reputable exhaust shop. they will most likely cut your current exhaust about 6-8" from the exhaust flange and then bend a custom pipe to rear of your vehicle on both sides coming out in between the gas tank and the framerails.

things you will have to decide are diameter of tube and type of muffler. I would go with a 2 1/4" exhaust tube and either dynomax or flowmaster mufflers. you can youtube both and most likely find video's with vehicles that currently have them on to determine which sound you like best, then take this newfound knowledge to the exhaust shop and have them put the puppy together.

You may want to do some pricing on mufflers before you go there though, they usually do a markup on the same mufflers you can buy at any autoparts store. hope this helps.

Do you have catalytic converters? If so, you can run a stainless cat-back system utilizing a dual outlet Magnaflow muffler and a couple of nice round stainless tips exiting out the rear just under the valance. If you don't have cats you can run a complete system from manifolds/headers back, use an x-pipe for better flow, 2 Magnaflow mufflers with the taillpipes exiting out the same location. Either way you will not only get a cooler look and sound, you will also get better performance because of the better exhaust flow.

For a more stock look buy the dual cutout valance from AMD for 73-74 Chargers and use the long style machine gun tips.

Another thing you might want to consider is adding an H or X pipe to your system, assuming you're not worried too much about the system looking like a 70's design as these innovations didn't become common on cars until the 1980s. Adding an H or X pipe will give you some better low-end torque and might give you some better high-end horsepower.
