I just wanted to share a great thing that happened today while working on my Charger Grilles repaint. I have several sets of the headlight shields and of course they are discolored tan due to sunlight. They fit as they should so I bought flex paint to refinish them in the gray/silver finish. I had one set that was covered with a sticky black paint(?). I was going to toss them but they fit great. I decided to clean them and underneath the goo, they were still the original color. Here's a photo of them installed in the grilles. Still have the gloss finish too!

They look new. Whatever that goo was must have preserved them.

Looks great. One thing I did with mine (and due to be done again) is I scrubbed them with Fast Orange, some call it Go-Jo.
It has pumice in it I believe but it also has aloe and makes the pieces soft and flexible again. Mine have discolored a bit again so before summer I'll be doing another scrub.

"... I was going to toss them..."
I'd think with crappy paint the things would still sell for 100 bucks wouldn't they?
They sure turned out nice though.

I wasn't quite sure if I could get the black sticky paint off without damaging the plastic underneath and I couldn't tell what shape they were in under the thick paint. I used non-chlorinated brake cleaner to get if off. It was messy but worked. Now, I'm wondering if I should coat them with anything to keep them from turning brown in the sun. I'm not sure how the OER repro shields fit at $100 a pair. They do look good though. Thanks.
