The below picture isn't necessarily Mopar - I just grabbed it quickly from the internet...
...but the idea is the holes are offset in the bushing. When installing them, the bushing can be installed in an orientation that gives you more caster (which is what you need on your old 74).
They are cheap and they work.

Now as far as being adverse to welding in ball joints:
I get it - I feel the same and didn't like the idea of a "redneck" weld on them. But the reality is that four small welds on the ball joints is pretty minimal AND they can be cut off if the ball joint needs to be removed. Welding in another plate and tapping a hole to repair yours would be extremely time consuming and costly - better to get replacements, and even those have a sketchy track record.
