78 Magnum GT

Here is one I bought used in 1980 and kept in the fold until an itch for an older car, my Belvedere, sent it to a sailor in Norfolk around 1994. Sold the car for $2200 and a 3:55 8-3/4 jackpot. Sure wish I had hung onto it.

Nice ride, like the color. What engine did it have? How did it do hauling that Barracuda and trailer?

Curious, what made it a GT. I've heard of them before, but didn't have two side by side to tell the difference.

"GT" was a trim package. It included;

Machine turned dash with a blacked out bottom half, machine turned center consold plate and passenger side applique.

"GT" badgeing inplace of the "XE"

A stripe package. 2 fat lines down the hood ending without a break in the "GT" letters. A stripe down the front fender, door and then a turn up behind the rear oprea window over the roof to the otherside.

Bumper strips like the Chrysler 300.

My XE came dressed in GT stripes. Dealer installed for the show room floor. I got mine off the 1st and only owner. Stripes have since disappeared due to fender benders.

Maybe I've never seen one. Can't recall the stripes or GT anywhere.

GT's were also available with fender flares.

The GT package also included 15 inch road wheels that were finished in a bright metallic argent finish with chrome centers and trim rings. So far as towing I had a step up type head for a class 2 reciever that raised the ball about 8inches. With the torsion bars on the hitch pulled up tight and the proper setting on the trailer brakes the stock 360 2barrel lean burn had no problem handeling the trailer, Cuda and a full box of tools and parts. The last trip it made was 7 hour one way trip to Maine to deliver the Cuda. On the way back second gear went away and it only had first and third gear after that, probably should have had an auxilary cooler on it.

thats great info, no guessing
i beleive the GT stripes were not factory installed? dealers option?
