Have a pair of 2843906 heads they are painted blue one is date code 05177 and other is 05297 with this date code would I be correct in saying that these are replacement heads cast in 1977 or am I wrong and these could be 1970 castings that someone painted?
Either way they are still 906 heads correct!

Any help appreciated

O/K Thank You for that,
I am surprised that they are early 68's that was one of my thoughts, good to know.
I hope they check out o/k I plan to have them rebuilt for a 69 Coronet that I am doing.
Being curious so if they were to have casted heads later than 1970 for replacement heads then I suppose the date code would be say 04151 for 1971 and 04152 for 1972 and so on untill they stopped casting replacements?
Thank You Moparnation74

Correct, remember when 906's came into production 68-70....You have the first gen 906's...71-73 was the 346 heads so 4/15/71

Also, keep in mind visually 906's are the same so the only one who will know the date is you....They do not remove valve covers at OE judged events.

No problem at all glad I can help...

Understand what you are saying, just wondering is it possible to have 906 casting heads that were date coded past say 1967,68,69,70 that were sold as replacement heads or are you saying that they only made 906 heads up to late 1970 and did not cast any past that year?
Maybe silly question still questioning if mine are really early 68's not to question your knowledge just research.
Thank you again

They are casted in 5/67 for an early 68 build....69-70 906 71-71 are 346....They did not cast heads for OTC after those production dates..

O/K Moparnation, Thank You for the info that is what I needed to know, was not trying to beat a dead horse.
Hope where you are at is dry.
