A/C in my 1964 Polara is operational

I had my aftermarket Vintage Air system in my 1964 Polara charged up yesterday. After replacing a couple of "O" rings, there were no more leaks, and the system blew cold air. It was good to see that all the electrics worked correctly. There were a lot of pieces in this jigsaw puzzle with some fabrication required, but I am glad I did it.This comes just in time, as the temperatures are supposed to be close to 30 degrees, Celsius, (95 F degrees) all this week.
Over the years, I have upgraded my old Dodge with power disc brakes, front sway bar, sub-frame connectors, cruise control, rear power antenna, AM/FM radio, power driver's seat, sequential rear turn signal lights, and now, A/C.
 
Good job, it all sounds cool on a 4 door hardtop!
 
That's great Dave. I am going to have to have my stock system recharged after the engine swap. What did they use for refrigerant?

No, I had to noodle it out myself. VA. makes kits for 1966 and newer, but early B-bodies are different enough, that they do not offer a kit. I detailed what I had to do, on here, a couple of years ago. If you are interested in doing the same, I can supply a list of pieces I used.

I am going to a local cruise night tonight, where the temperature is supposed to be about 95F. I plan to offer to let some of my friends sit in my car, because it is air conditioned. LOL.

you fill it yourself? just using cans or?
 
my AC in my 2018 jeep is crap right now (known to leak) i put in some stop leak and topped it off but it goes cold/hot which is annoying.. i need to get it vacuumed down and done right

No, I took it to my local Canadian Tire Corp. store/garage to have it filled professionally. Since it was a new system, it had to have any moisture vacuumed out, and checked for leaks. I was charged $120 for an A/C service and $75 for 2 units of A-134, plus taxes, was total of $225. The mechanic detected 2 leaking o-rings with his "Magic Wand", and replaced them. I would not have been able to do this myself.
 
If a person wants the A/C to work correctly it needs to be evacuated before charging.

Vacuum-ing the system b4 filling for the first time is crucial to the overall system performance. First, it removes any moisture (water vapor) in the system which can cause corrosion to the aluminum components and allows the dessicant in the dryer to keep the system "dry". Second it removes any residual AIR in the system as air is a NON-CONDENSIBLE which inhibits or prevents the refrigerant vapor from condensing back to a liquid after it leaves the compressor, and tends to collect at the inlet of the condenser coil, so the refrigerant vapor can condenser back to liquid refrigerant back to the Evaporator coil. Remember, the system does not make cold air but removes heat from the air stream.......just thought you might like to know the reason for evacuation.........
