When I purchased my 67 Coronet,the backup lights didn't work. I found out someone had addwd a relay and toggle switch to turn them on. I rewired them according to factory and after testing I found out the b.u. switch didn't turn them on. I tested it out of the tranny and by pushing the button in ctgey came on. Hmmm. I determined that the tranny wasn't pushing the button in far enough,so I added a spot of mig weld on the ball and now it works.
