Been thinking about swapping a gen 3 hemi in 63 b body and been reading where people are using the A999 AND A518 transmissions behind the gen 3 , question I found a use A999 Trans with numbers 4028465 , 1976-77 model , how much is these going for ? Thanks

Whatever they can get. Just off the top of my head, 200.00. I could be way off base. I've bought a few, they just thought they were 904's for 50-100 bucks.

The 998 was the 904 lockup and the 999 was the 727 l/ u,,
No?

The guys at FABO would be jumping all over this topic!
I thought that the 999 was the 1980 and later version of the 904 that had the lower 2.75 first gear. My memory may be fuzzy but I do recall that they coded the lower gear versions with a different number.

The late 999 have 5 plate front clutch. There are also 2.74/1.54 gear set units. Many are lock up. They can be identified by the smooth area at the end of the input shaft. They can be converted to non lockup. It takes a little machining of the stator support to clear the 5 plate front clutch housing. You also have to retain the rear clutch hub and pressout the input shaft. use a non lock up valve body as well. They are getting tougher to find. The gear set alone is worth $200.

The 999 behind the 360 2 barrel started in 1974, non lockup till 1978. In 1978 both non LU and LU were available. That 2.74 low gear set didn't come out till the 80's sometime when they started putting 2.45 and 2.24 rear gears in the cars, and I don't know about pickups and vans. So all 999's did not have the low gear set in them.
