I’m ready to get belts for my 440 and from what I’ve read on here: 1) belt for alt, water pump, crank on inner groove 2) belt for power steering pump, crank on outer groove.
I’ve got mine strung up with twine and 1) alt, crank outer groove 2) water pump, power steering, crank inner groove.
Will this (belt) setup work or do I need to reevaluate some things? Will doing it this way overspeed or underspeed the alt? PS pump?

Are they in alignment? If so, it will work. But may not be properly aligned.

Crank, water pump, alternator.
Crank, P/S pump.

The water pump and crank pullies look fine. The p/s pump looks like a smallblock, and you may have to move the dual groove alt pulley around to get one groove to line up.
Or get a correct single groove alt/ alt pulley

You'll get a more accurate result for length if you use a 3/8" rope. Same width as the belt. Or you can use a cloth measuring tape, going over the tops of the pullies. Put your adjustments in the middle of their grooves. That will give you some wiggle room in case you can't get exact on the belts.

It is the small block PS pump that I kept when I did the swap. From what I’ve read it shouldn’t be an issue but I guess time will tell

Great advice. Thanks for saving me from myself!

*IF* it lines up with the outer crank pulley, ,,, shouldn't be an issue. Post #3 shows that.
