Adjustable proportioning valve?

Upgrading the brakes on my 71 Charger.

Can I run direct from the master cylinder to the front brakes, and install an adjustable proportioning valve for just the rear brakes?

You may want to wait until you at least you road test the car after the upgrade, unless you feel your system is significantly imbalanced from the get-go.
Most balanced braking targets are front lock ups first with rears at the most only approaching lockup, and that is a moving target because of road conditions, fuel tank full or near empty, cargo, passengers, speed, etc
Pad choice also enters the picture and is also a tuning factor.
On my street cars I put the adjuster by the MC because I don't want others messing with it, on my track-oriented cars its down by the seat

I agree. I installed one and its totally unnecessary. Waste of money.

I have 11-3/4" front discs, 10" rear drums. Manual m/c. No factory distribution block or prop valve.
 
Just installed this in my 65. Removed the " leaking" adjustable valve. No issues so far. I use DOT 5 fluid and a motive power bleeder.

It looks to be powder coated.
