Air Cleaners

I'm not a originality or show car guy, but I think there were a couple different versions of the oval snorkel as well. Maybe A/C, non A/C, and C.A.P.?

Yes I believe you are correct, I was looking at my 66 parts book last evening and there are several different part numbers listed.
Unfortunately no graphics for each. It did list a dual snorkel which surprised me.
My 383 Charger had the unsilenced air cleaner, it's now on my Satellite.

I don't believe they had a dual snorkel on a 66.
My May 66 parts book only lists single snorkel and no snorkel for the early cars. Then in an updated 66 parts book (March 1967) there are listings for a dual snorkel for 383 and 440 engines. The part number for this dual snorkel is the same in the 67 parts book but the part number for the 440 dual snorkel changed (now an oval?). Check your parts numbers for your cars.....
1966 383/440 w/CAP 2658 916 ..... 383/440 w/o CAP 2658 891
1967 383 w/CAP 2658 916 and 383 w/o CAP 2658 891.... 440 w/CAP 2843 068 and 440 w/o CAP 2843 069

I have a bunch of Air Cleaners. This is an original wrinkle finish Dual Snorkel air cleaner from a 67 R/T.... I believe this unsilenced air cleaner also came on some 67 B-bodies and is an original wrinkle finish from a 67 383 Barracuda..

For 67 440 the CAP version was just a hose nipple off the left, rear part, snorkel. I’ve never seen a dual snorkel in 67 be different from AC to no AC.

I believe the first picture in Quickbpbp post 24 is the correct one for 67 440 I was told that they had 13 ribs on the cover , in my journeys looking for one for my rt all I could find were covers with 12 ribs . Just what I was told.

Correct you are....have both 67 factory 440HP and 383 4 bbl cars. 440=oval 383=round
I have a 66 CAP and non CAP single snorkel for sale, I want to sell the CAP. The difference seems to be where the breather hooks up. Anyone know which is which?

Interesting, then what do I have here? Super rare, 1 week only, drag strip testing air cleaner...:) I have no idea. Both 66 383-4. One is California

I don't believe the Cleaner Air Package was California only....

This pic is of a 67 440 XP29L car that was presented as all original parts, I questioned the tapered snorkel oval tips and the very knowledgeable owner promised me it was factory. This car was at show at the IX center in Cleveland OH in 2018 or so.

Correct me if I'm wrong, But I do believe that the 66 base was 4 7/8" and the 67 base was 5 1/8''. Or maybe the 68 was the first year for the 5 1/8'' base.

While looking for a dual snorkel for my 67, it did appear that 68 was the start year for the 5 inch base.
