Alternate to Factory Rear Sway Bar Plate

I have a factory rear sway bar set up for my 72 but I am missing the mounting plates. Since factory plates are approximately impossible to find, Im thinking of trying a 69-73 Mustang/Cougar plate since it has mounting holes in about the same location and the sway bar set up looks pretty similar. Has anyone ever tried this?

Well, if that doesn't demonstrate Chrysler's "excellence in engineering," I don't know what will! SUBSTANTIALLY less beef than the Mopar piece. As far as functionality, it looks a lot flatter than what you need - the 72 plate sweeps up (and out). If these weren't a one year only piece I am sure they would be reproduced by now.

Thought I would post my solution to this now that I have it installed. This is a factory rear sway bar. I replaced the factory end links with a generic set I had from a suspension rebuild kit that were the same length. Bushings on the bars are for an Impala front sway bar. The mounting plates are 65-66 mustang shock mounting plates modified to fit the mopar U-bolt spacing and mate up with the end links. The spring center bolt had to be lengthened to get as the plate is 3/8th plate and I have 6 degree pinion shims in. Sans the swaybar, total was about $75.

With the bends the stock plate LOOKS beffier BUT the sheetmetal gauge is not thick as the mustang one. Or what It looks in pic thought
