I just replace all the engine wiring harnesses with new from M&H, had the cluster redone with current electronics from Bob's speedo. also installed MSD 5 ignition. now when fired up the tach registers about double and when the engine is revved the ampmeter sweeps to full right. Also in case this helps I have also replaced ALL wiring front to back with new. any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks

The tach could be set for a 4/6/ cylinder there should be a selector if it's an aftermarket one... the amp gauge pegging out could be a drained battery or a cross wire... UN hook the battery and test it for having 12+ volts and test the amp mater circuits for resistance... it wouldn't be UN common to have all new wires and have something off or a ground missed... a crossed wire could be giving you 24 volts and that wouldn't be good... call and ask Bob's and see what he thinks.... a multi meter is you're best friend....

it is an original tic-toc that Bob redid. but thanks for the ideas will try those

Be careful if it isn't right the electronics can be a nightmare and expensive....

If the battery is not well charged, then the ammeter will normally move well to the right ( towards 'C' or change). As the engine speeds up, the votlage will rise and the ammeter will register more currign until the battery is charged.

24v from the alternator will not happen unless the battery is disconnected and the VR is commanding the alternator to full output; it will rise to someting like 16-8V max. But that brings up a good point to get a voltmeter and check the voltage at the battery before and after starting. The system should read in the range of 13.7 to 14.3 volts or thereabouts at fast idle; a fully charged battery in good condtition should read 12.6-12.7 volts after resting for an hour or so with the engine off.

The tach thing DOES seems like a 4 cyl setting.

Pictures?

Did you wire this new harness up yourself?

Other gauges work right? Lights signals etc work right? No blown or shorted fuses? Alternator wired right? Let's see the instruction book you used and some pics or is there a download from M&H?

I used the factory wiring diagram with all new wiring front to back, new alt., regulator, ballast. All other gauges and lights except tach work great and got the original tic-toc resolved with an adapter from MSD.
