My son and I (mostly my son) are working on rebuilding a '66 Charger. It is the first MOPAR for us but I have rebuilt two VW's and a '47 Jeep CJ2A from the ground up and he has finished a complete rebuild on a '64 Corvair. He lives in Portland Oregon and I live in St Paul MN so I only get to work on it in trips there but his goal is to replace the 400 CI engine it has in it now to a 440CI he got from around 1975 (engine number is 4006630) and bring the horsepower up to 500 or so .. ( I am new to all stuff MOPAR so hope this makes sense)

We are also looking at making sure the existing running gear and transmission is suitable for this configuration. Currently has Torqueflight 727 auto matic and 8 3/4 rear diff

I am also a pilot and aircraft mechanic and so looking forward to helping him on this project. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to FBBO from NY.
Car projects are amongst the greatest things a dad can do with his son.
Good luck on the Charger project.

Welcome from Pennsylvania!

Swapping from a 400 to 440 is pretty easy. A 400 is a "B" low deck block, and a 440 is a "RB" raised deck block. Most things are shared between the big blocks except the intake manifold, distributor and reciprocating assembly.

A 727 transmission and 8 3/4 rear are plenty strong and can be made to work very well.

Good Luck with your project and welcome to Mopar!

Welcome from across the river (from Portland). Do you fly out here for this project. That's a bit of a commute!

I'd love to see some pics of your previous projects - especially the Jeep - and will look forward to seeing your progress.
