Anybody ever have an alternator blow apart?

Thing went going down the highway, no warning of anything being wrong. A chunk flew into the fan and really did a number on the backside of the radiator. Spins fine still off car and no blades on the inside appear to be gone off it. It was my 69 Road Runner. Can't really figure out what happened at all.

That sucks. Well at least they left you a 800 number to call.
Looks like a diode missing? That might have got in the mix before or after the carnage.

I agree, looks like an electrical failure caused the mechanical failure of the casting. That diode may have exploded which could have caused the broken casting piece which was thrown by the fan into your radiator? Just a theory for you.
