The auto manufactures were putting these high powered missles into the hands of kids and letting them loose on the streets of America. The handling and braking was not up to par with the speeds these cars were capable of going. The safety aspect was just begining in the mid sixties. Things like collapsible steering columns headrests and seatbelts were just starting to appear in production automobiles. The E body Mopars were one of the first cars to have crumple zone hoods that were designed to fold in the event of a crash in 1971. The 1970 E body hoods would not fold in the event of a front end crash,instead the back edge of the hood would crash through the windshield like a guillotine! You can tell in some of these pictures some people didn't walk away frome these crashes,the ones who did were very fortunate!
