ballast resistors

Thx 383 for the thorough explanation. I just wonder why the MSD Blaster II coil comes with a ballast resistor. Probably because they don't know what kind of ignition you're running. Could still be using a points distributor and they're covering the bases.

I appreciate all the responses and hope this info helps MoparJohnny too since I kind of highjacked his thread. Kind of a confusing subject with all the Yes you still need one - no you don't - responses.

I would think the MSDII Blaster coil may come with a ballast for only if you use the MSD coil on a standard Mopar electronic ign and not the full MSD ign system. Ron

Just to sew this one up at least regarding MSD Ready to Run electronic ignition and Blaster II coils. I called MSD tech line this morning - bottom line if you're running the above system they say you don't need a ballast resistor. If you're mixing up your systems you probably will. Thx for all the replies trying to help a relative novice on this subject. I'm now at peace with what I need to do. Thx to all!
