I am still putting my car back together after my old fan went into the radiator and bent the blades over. Looks like it happened due to a broken radiator bracket. I ordered the Hayden 2947 clutch and it is going to buy me some extra space. I mounted my new fan tot he clutch and noticed that some of the engine side tips are bent.

Any idea why this would have been done? Do I need to toss the fan and buy a new one or should this be ok?

Are you competent with a hammer & dolly ? If not too bad, they can be carefully reshaped to the original configuration.

I remember a story when I was a kid and a guy got his arm severed off. He was working on his car when the blade broke off. Maybe I’m paranoid but I’d replace the fan.

IMO......DON'T EVEN **** AROUND.....REPLACE THE FAN ASSEMBLY. Balance is critical for proper overall performance. You have a lot of $$$ and time invested a couple tenths of an gram in overall weight and shape at 2000 RPM Is significant.....it's not worth it.......

I’m going to replace it. Best match I can find is the Derale 17118. It has mostly good reviews with a few cases of fans coming apart.

Bob... did you ever work on a car ? Did you ever do metal work on a car ? I know all well about the aerodynamics, guess what, you're not the only one who has a college education here. And guess what.... I've personally worked a fan that you'd never know it had been bent. I respect your knowledge, but I've got 55 years experience hands-on. Sure, if it's bent and out of balance beyond repair, replace it.

I'd put an ad here for a used OEM fan if your gonna replace it

YES....ABSOLUTELY.....and guess what???.....I've worked on my own vehicle......but...for the small dollars involved in buying the proper fan blade assembly, to me it's just not worth the price. What you do to/with your vehicle is your business......I'll do the same with mine....or pay someone with more expertise to work on my vehicle......and when to know when the transition point is...........
