Best Rock & Roll Riffs

Paradise city...welcome to the jungle ...estranged...seventh son of a seventh son.....phantom of the opera.....haoolwed be thy name.............paranoid....iron man......breaking the law

Never had heard Black Oak Arkansas before, but they sound killer!

Top tracks: Jim Dandy, Uncle Lijah, Lord Have Mercy On My Soul, When Electricity Came To Arkansas.

Jim Mangrum had a big influence on David Lee Roth and on Jesse James Dupree from Jackyl (the guy who plays a chainsaw solo on "Lumberjack"). But talk about a guy who let himself go! There's about six of him now.... :sad4:

Allot of Def-Leopard & Judas Priest songs have good riffs, has everyone forgot about the Jimmy Hendricks, Credence Clearwater Revival, even the Beach Boys had some cool riffs...

i stumbled unto them many years ago, during the truck driven era. we needed tunes like they played to stay awake. lets say it helped. lol i know there are a couple of other groups but i would have to dig into the memory vault and that is gettin harder to do since my brain anyurism operation. its threads like this one that help unlock the door. quote "jim dandy to the rescue".
another good driving too band was thorogood and the destroyers. caught them a couple of times around the boston area when they played the bars. they were just here a couple of months ago for the 2nd time. de javue. :hello2:

I'm going old school...

"Work Song" Butterfield Blues Band (East-West)
"Mystery Train" Butterfield Blues Band
"Hot 'Lanta" Allman Brothers(live)
"Child In Time" Deep Purple(live)
"Can't You Hear Me Knockin'?" The Rolling Stones(This needs to be heard on a good system to appreciate all that is going on during the instrumental ending of the song. Utterly fantastic.)
"Happenings Ten Years Time Ago" Yardbirds
"Smokestack Lightning" Yardbirds
"Moonlight Drive" The Doors(Robby Krieger nails it on guitar)

I was someone who disdained the "hit single" from an LP and went looking for the gems hidden within.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Chuck Berry "Johnny Be Good"

Great songs on this thread already, but I'm going with:

Love Thoroughgood! He comes through the bay area here every year and have seen him live a half dozen times. Always a good show. Last year I heard a classic rock band on the radio I had never heard before but many of my friends had - April Wine playing "She's a Roller". That's a kick *** song.
