blew the water pump, now over heating big time!

Great job!

Manufactures like Mr.G should be shot for selling such crap! What's so hard about making a good part, as simple as a t-stat. That malfunction could have been costly if it would have caused damage. Good "heads up" on your Dads part...

Yes, thankfully I am able to do the work on our cars and he was smart enough to pull over. I had to argue with him to get flat bed and have the vehicle towed home as he wanted to just let it cool off and drive it back home after it cooled off. Told him there was no way I would let him chance it especially since we both had AAA. Haggerty Insurance that we have also provides a towing service too which we are signed up for. (flat bed also!)

I am just thankful that nothing major happened like him blowing a head gasket or rad core or even cracking something.

Happy everything worked out for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

seems to have. Dad is taking the car to a cruise night tonight so I guess we will see how the car is up for with a decent drive. I'm not expecting any problems. Although, I wasn't expecting any issues the last time either. lol.

How was it? Keep us posted. AAA Plus rollback has never let me down or caused damage. I use only Napa 180 Superstats. No related problems ever.

Don't know Dennis. Dad is taking the car to a cruise night tonight (Friday) so we shall see.

Oops, looks like I dropped the ball and forgot to update people. The issue was indeed the crappy Mr. Gasket "fail safe" thermostat. Seems that the fail safe failed big time. New Stant Super-stat (which is also a fail safe) has been in there since May and has had no issues since with driving the car over an hour and a half down to the Mopars at E-town show this past Aug. Car runs nice and cool.

Good to hear that you resolved the issue. That defective thermostat could have caused you some expensive repairs! I use Stant SuperStat thermostats and have had good results. They're still a good piece.
I don't normally buy Mr. Gasket parts but have bought a few in the last couple years and have had some issues with them. One item was their mini electric fuel pump. I installed it, flipped the switch and as it started to pump fuel it's output nipple pushed right out of place and fuel was being pumped onto the shop floor! Good thing I was watching and was able to quickly turn the switch off.
