My1 phone won’t pair to an Alpine Unit. Probably an I-8. Alpine 5 years old. Says Pair? Then fails. Unit is close and powered on. Blue tooth is “on in Settings. Trying to play Spotify tunes. Anything else I can try? Powered on/off and turned blue tooth on and off.

It’s 60 and sunny gorgeous day. She lit right off and used to go to the dentist. Everything else works.

I have an alpine unit and i thought it would simply connect with my phone but it wouldn't. Had to get on the net for instructions. I can't remember what i had to do but maybe this video will help. You might get better info if you know the alpine model.

Great info. Will report back.

Have you got the phone in 'Pairing Mode' ?

Try searching devices on your phone under the Bluetooth Connections page....search, then the stereo should show up as a device, and ask you to pair it.

I know it can be frustrating at times. Do it once it they should stay locked together every time they are within range of each other.

On the picture above it shows my Laptop as an available device - meaning it is not connected - you should see your Alpine in the same place (on your phone ...not mine) - then select it and follow the instructions.

Should I have the phone connected with a hard line too? In the modern car it reads “carplay when plugged in, but connects BT and no wire with Linda’s phone. Yes Alpine Device is recognized on phone.

What kind of phone?

My older Samsung was slowly loosing it's ability to communicate over local network connections.

It will charge, but not connect for data transfer over USB, and now it can see but not connect to bluetooth devices.

Maybe samsung/android is now using the microsoft model of forcing upgrades by degrading performance of older devices via "updates" that cripple things.

Does the phone bluetooth connect to anything else?

Bluetooth is all wireless. No need for a hard line.

If you connect a USB cable between the stereo and phone while trying to pair, the phone will get confused and try to default to USB play mode.

Some car units will read a USB connection.
Sometimes the controls work, sometimes it just reads as storage.

It’s an older I-8 Classic. Still has the “home button. Don’t know if it connects to anything else. The Alpine reads BTOOTH, AUX, AND USB. I’ll retry without cord. The video shows the “source button as the “enter key. I was using the large round dial. Thanks for taking the time.

If you have purchased a new mobile device or are trying to add another mobile device to your Alpine Bluetooth head unit and are receiving a pairing failed message you will want to check the “Paired Device List” as it may be full and delete any old or unused devices.

For Alpine CD Headunits CDE-133BT, CDE-135BT, CDE-136BT, CDE-HD137BT, CDE-HD138BT and CDE-W235BT

  1. Press and hold the phone/setup button for three seconds to enter “Setup”
  2. Using your volume control, select “Paired Dev” and press “Enter”
  3. Using your volume control scroll through the list of paired devices
  4. Select a paired device to be deleted by pressing “Enter” then use your volume control to select “Clear” and press “Enter. (a cleared message will appear)
  5. Repeat steps 4 & 5 to delete multiple devices.
  6. Press and hold the phone/setup button for three seconds to exit “Setup”

To pair your iPhone 8 with the Alpine CDE-163BT, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone 8. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn it on.
  2. On the Alpine CDE-163BT, navigate to the Bluetooth menu using the rotary encoder. Select "BT IN" and set it to "ON".
  3. Press and hold the "SETUP" button for at least two seconds to enter the setup mode.
  4. In the setup menu, go to "Bluetooth SETUP" and select "Setting the Bluetooth Connection (BT IN)".
  5. Set the device to "PAIR YES" using the rotary encoder and press ENTER. If "PAIR NO" is selected, the connection will be canceled.
  6. On your iPhone 8, search for available Bluetooth devices. Select "Alpine CD Receiver" or a similar name from the list to initiate pairing.
  7. The CDE-163BT will display "CONNECTED" for a few seconds if pairing is successful, then return to its previous state.
For optimal performance, ensure the firmware on the CDE-163BT is up to date, as updates can improve compatibility with newer devices like the iPhone 8, especially regarding audio streaming and control features. If issues persist, a hard reset by disconnecting the battery for a minute may help clear stored settings and allow a fresh pairing attempt.

looks like it might be capable, for the price it might be worth the risk to see if your phone will pair with it! has a battery though and you have to turn off and on, pita! the unit I use is from best buy for home use and it plugs in wall with a power supply, but the power supply line has a jack which could be powered from your ignition switch with right voltage adapted!the usb just goes to phono jacks to receiver! it doesn't have any writing on it other than the insignia shown, you could see if it's available , think it was near same price and works good from at least 30ft. , i take the alexa out on the porch and yell at her what to play on the house stereo, love it and my phone stays my phone not part of my sound system! my phone pairs in my truck and when a call comes in it will take your ears off, gotta get that volume thing figured out!
