The twist

After sitting and curing for a few weeks, we sanded with 1500, 2000, 3000 and buffed. Now it was time to get it ready for the second color, black base coat with three coats a reduced gloss 2002 clear. At a glance, it gives the car the look of the original black vinyl top. The Charger body is a lot of real estate, so the added black makes the silver stand out even more.

So the black roof is the aforementioned "twist"! I'm interested in seeing it now in full trim as (just to be honest) I'm not sure how I would personally like the black roof (to each their own no judgey judgey!)

Curious why not go with vinyl if you wanted to break up the silver?

I'm attached to this one as essentially your building my favorite car and finishing it in my top choice (silver)

Cheers!

Goon

I'll be posting more pictures this weekend and you can see it with the trim and judge from that. So far it's drawn lots of positive comments. I admit that I wasn't sure how I would like it, but I'm pretty pleased with the look myself. Unlike some flattened finishes, it's not so flat that it leaves marks or shiny spots when cleaned off. In fact, I think it could be waxed!
I shot 3 coats of code FC03 clear on it and they came out as flawless as you could ask for.

Wow does that paint look great!!!!!! Accept the black roof haha??? Like Goon said, not to sure I would have gone that route especially after seeing your paint, would have looked great all silver but who knows.

That paint turned out great. I think once you get the trim on, the roof will stand out more ,but will look even better when you stand back and look at the whole car.

We shall see!

The customer feels like the car is so large, it was too much silver. The black paint is smooth but has a similar luster as a vinyl top, without the maintenance headaches associated with vinyl. Plus, it's not going back original/bone stock anyway.
Hey, after all the work that went into this car I'm just glad I didn't have to paint it orange and put a flag on the roof.:headbang:

The customer is always right! It is after all their car! That's why I try to put it tactfully "It may not be my personal choice but I won't judge there's" As far as it being a big car and needing to break it up I find the rump stripe can really accomplish that or even wheel/rim choice to take away but it depends on what THEY want as a finished product.

The one remaining factor is that your work on the car is exceptional. And I understand why you chose to go black in this manner using paint.

Here's a silver one that's local to me, Belongs to a guy named Marc that I met at Moparfest.

Thank you, Hyrdgoon. You're going to see that this car looks quite a bit like the one you posted pictures of.
You are right, the customer is paying me to build what they want and that's what I need to give them. Going into it, I wasn't sure how it would strike me but I'm happy with it. I actually like the look and think it was a good choice. Most importantly, the customer is happy. The car has been challenging a few times, but it's been a fun process and one that my guys and I are proud of. One thing that has played a big part in that has been my customers, the father and son. They have been fantastic people to work with on this.
Right now I have several other cars in the shop to devote my time to, so I won't be posting on here like I have been.
I'm going to put up some before-after type shots and then my final ones for now.
I've enjoyed posting here and getting the feedback, questions and compliments. Thank you guys, for your interest and kind words.
Steve

Here it is with the stripe and trim on it. Right now it's having drive train and dash work being done, and after that we get on final assembly of the rest of the body. These aren't the final wheels, but when we switched the rear ends we put them on just to dress it up a little.
That's all, folks!!
