So ive finally got around to poking around on the rust bubbles on my car and have found it to be a lot worse then the prev owner told me or what i thought. Theres about 4-6mm of bog in some spots along the panel and some severe rust holes. Ive marked 2 rough lines where im going to cut to and grind the paint to ( outside line being the cut line) ive never done any panel work before and it doesnt look all that easy. Its got bends twists and right angles all through this fucka. Im just asking whats the best way to attack it. I will be tig welding it

I'd probably be stripping the lower foot of the car. Hope ya don't have too much to repair.

If I managed to do my panel work.you can too. I found all kinds of stuff on my supposedly straight 66 Charger. The passenger side was pretty straight. The drivers side was another story. By the time I got the mud ground out it looked like it rubbed the wall at Bristol speedway several times. I got the fender and quarter straight. The door was bad. Somebody used a torch on it to pull the dents out. It was bad. It had some rust issues on top by the mirror too. I went and found another door.

I would grind all bondo out if no holes above body line cut below line if you can the shade will help to hide things a bit

this is my first time you will not know what you can do until you try

I can't really tell what your car is or how bad that is.
Here is a source for patches.

If you have TIG.
I have TIG and I'm going to try this on pin hole rust.
Sounds like a good idea since the steel doesn't actually have to be melted to bond.
As you may know, old "rusty" metal isn't consistently thick and not blowing through it is tricky with plain welding.

I think the easiest way would be for you to replace it with stamped out patch panels or a complete quarter panel.
Others here have provided links to suppliers of such parts. Good luck.

Learned this rule a long, long time ago: Where there's rust, there's more. You got to cut it all out. All of it.

Thanks, ive emailed them about shipping to Australia. Think the panel would be the easiest way.

Do your self a big favor and get a mud hog 8 inch DA if you plan to strip the whole car. Best investment I could have made. They take a lot of air to operate but they will remove some material in a hurry.

Just remember you can get a digital camera in all kinds of places you can't get your peepers. Also here is a lesson I learned though it may or may not be relevant to your case.

Redoing a 71 demon I had rust at the leading edge of the quarter behind the tire on the driver side. On the passenger side I had rust at the bottom of the back of the quarter close to the bumper. I patched both. 3-4 years later? My patches looked great, but where I patched the front it rotted at the back, where I patched the back it rotted at the front. It wouldn't surprise me if the bottom 4 inches or so were rotten down the whole quarter in that pick.

I'd be sticking a vacuum with a fine attachment in between the trunk extension and quarter to see what I can suck out. probably pull the body plug out (in the extension) to have a look. Wrap a paint stick with an old shirt (don't use paper towels that will rip and leave bits behind) and some mild cleaner and keep sticking it down there to wipe it clean, then take a pic. Finding and evaluating how bad, and whats causing the rust is harder then actually fixing the rust.

Yeah - rust is like an iceberg. You can never see the full extent until you clean all the filler and crap off. It may be easier and give a better finish to replace the whole panel.
