Bought a big a$$ air compressor today

Leave it to Greg to side track any thread into the ditch. Instead of Kern Dog I think I'll call him Ditch Bitch!
Actually that honor should go to jcc, the latest site "pidgeon"...
(I'll leave it to you all to figure that one out :D )

Found the ID tag, its a model 5105, have not found much in the way of specs yet, but looks like parts are available. Still looking! IMG_1956.jpeg

If you're going to run it off of a PTO, you're going to have to figure out how to "un-clutch it" when it reaches max tank pressure or I don't want to see the shrapnel ...

It has unloaders, the drive motor can run continuous.
And its YUGE

It stops compressing air and freewheels at a given tank PSI.
Pay attention or you get the ruler across your knuckles.

When you drive your car to your house and park it, do you just let it "freewheel" in neutral until your next trip or do you shut it off?

Most industrial air cubes run the electric motor all the time and load and unload the compressor because at a dead stop, there is a large current draw thats bad for a motor repeadedly.

Maybe, but that is why it has an unloader to reduce start up current demands and this I believe is a hobbyist application, not industrial full time factory application. The reason active phase convertors are difficult to justify is they have a motor running full time whether a load is placed on it or not, and that or running any prime mover consumes energy/dollars with wear and tear, for little reason in that case.

Depends how hard it was to get started.
