I brought my Dodge home in Jan. 2008. A Cal. black plate car I found here in Iowa. Just a rolling chassis with little to no interior and a crumpled right front fender. Paint faded real bad with several dents, but solid with very little rust. Someone had gotten wild with a flame wrench, cutting a chunk out of the trans cross member and the body brace. Prolly to put in some weird floor shifter. That first Winter and Summer it sat in a chicken house while i delt with vision problems and made plans for what I wanted for the finished project.

After 5 years of work when money would allow, today I took Brutus to my paint guy. This project was not intended to be done soon, It was to give me something to do, as I am retired due to disability's. I did things opposite from a lot of people. I built the car before I did the paint.

Here is a link to my build album. Click on the pics to enlarge them and then you can see my comments below some of the pics. I need to update that album.

Nice job!! Was the dash cluster restored or just in great shape??:blob1:

Looking good Steve!

The plastic chrome was done by the "spray chrome" process, and then the argent silver was rattle canned in the right places. I polished the clear lens and cleaned the guages and painted the needles flouresent orange. Thanks for the comment...................MO

Looking good Steve!
Thanks Dave. I felt goofy when my wife caught me sitting on the installed seat , one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the 4 speed shifter. She said she couldn't hear the vroom- vroom motor sound! 8-) ...................MO

Please elaborate on the "spray chrome? please. I'm on the fence to restore my cluster or remove it and make a custom one for my Racepak.

I'm guessing he means something like this:

Basically it is a chemical reaction, it is the same process they use to create mirrors. And the technique is ancient. I am not endorsing spectra chrome, but they do show a lot of info about the process. I am interested in this myself, and there is a guy I know here in Finland that apparently has a business doing it for show cars.

IN short after the 'chroming' (it's not chroming at all really), you WILL need to clear coat the finish. And..it is NOT great around heat. SO forget anything in your engine bay etc.

Pretty much what TekHouse says. It will last as good as the urathane clear that is sprayed over it. There are several diffeent named companys that do this and most likely a shop near you that can. Do your homework , just like painting, the part will look only as good as the preparation. I am thinking about having Spray Chrome on my Grill and C rings............................MO
