Build Thread for my 68 Coronet R/T Convertible

I do like that wheel design.
A little old school with a modern twist... This was when I bolted them on a friends car to see how they would look... It certainly took the "grandpa" look away...

Absolutely.
I get tired of seeing the same wheels on these cars over and over. Fitted with period correct aluminum wheels are how they looked when I was growing up.

I like them. Something to think about for the yellow car with powder black spokes polished rim
Only problem is, these were custom built back when American Racing had their "Custom Shop" The fronts are an off the shelf wheel, the rears are not.... Fronts are 17x8... Rears are 17x11... Widest ones they currently offer are 17x9...

Actually after looking around some more it looks like 17x11 is still possible, but you would need to call them... On the other hand 17x9 might be big enough....

We need to see what they look like on my car before you put them on your red car for rollers…. That’s a crazy size for rears with what offset?

My 18 x 10 wheels are 4 3/4" backspacing and that leaves about an inch to the springs.

I wonder how the 1 3/8" deeper offset will work.

it's close, but it fits... When I ordered them I measured & measured some more... Then in the end I decided to cheat them 1/8" further inboard figuring I could add a shim if needed... On Franks car it wasn't needed... And I don't expect it will be on my car either... Yes, it will be close, but I've run them close before...With no issues...

How wide are your tires?

That picture was with a 295-45. I currently have 295-35s but will return to a taller sidewall when these are worn out.
I am not quite sure about this housing though. It might be a 66-67 housing that is about 5/8" narrower than a 68-70 housing.

I'm betting that is the case.... It makes sense... I've run rear tires with less than 1/4" to the spring & never had it rub... The spring is bolted solid to the axle... When you corner hard the bushings allow some deflection but the spring to the axle doesn't change...

I think about tire deflection as much or more than any rim contact.

Well, since I need to polish four wheels & I'm lazy... I built an adapter that allows me to spin my tire/wheel assemblies on my Lathe.... Basically a 5' long pipe with a machined flange welded to the end... The flange has the 5x4.5 pattern machined into it...
