There is a system available. I am a mod over at Cadillacforums and we have a detection system that does just that. Perhaps admin want to look into it. It works pretty well. We catch 'em left and right. Here is the explanation as posted to the Mods there.but until there's an alert system in place that immediately notifies of the return of a banned member trying to create another new identity, we will all continue to get ripped off, write and read threads like these.
Maybe Joey can chime in as to whether or not he has this software in place...There is a system available. I am a mod over at Cadillacforums and we have a detection system that does just that. "This forum is for our Alter-Ego Detector. The system works by placing a tracking cookie on a member's computer. If they have more than one account, the system will automatically create a thread here with a report of the accounts detected. It will look like this: (example from another forum)
Thread title: Quadracers tripped AE Detector
Thread post: Quadracers seems to have multiple personalities using sparkyracer3 and Quadracers sharing the same computer. No soup for you! and you! and you!
The underlined names are linked to their profile.
For users who seem to be legitimate, please send a PM to one of the accounts. Explain to them that we were notified about them having multiple accounts, and ask for an explanation. The most common reason is that they had an account and forgot their login info so they created a new one. Other reasons could be they have a relative or roommate or whatever that's also on the forums and that's why the system caught them.
In either case, send a PM and then record the reason in its applicable thread here. We'll decide a course of action after - usually merging of the accounts.
In spam cases, it's obvious. Example:
rich1 seems to have multiple personalities using shaun1 and mit12 and james12 and jefftomi and pollock and nick1 and jeffbacher and solomd and rich1 sharing the same computer. No soup for you! and you! and you!
In that case, I recorded the IP addresses for each account and ended up banning the entire block. (117.198.*.*) I've had no new registrations from this computer since doing that.
FYI, this system only works with desktop computers (PC & Mac).
Unfortunately it does not work on mobile devices (smartphones & tablets)."

BTSOM, I'm just a mod there. Seems to me it was in place when the previous (original) site owner had it. The site is now owned by some large car forum conglomerate, but I think I could put Joey in touch with the original site owner if he has any interest.Maybe Joey can chime in as to whether or not he has this software in place...
What was the cost of that software?
No software can detect different IP adresses created by an IP generator. Anyone with multipersonality disorder can have 100 screen names.Maybe Joey can chime in as to whether or not he has this software in place...

You didn't destroy anyone's rep etc....they are the ones that destroyed themselves when they decided to be scumbag thieves...Well I didn't set out to destroy anyone's rep, or business. I tried to be patient and repeatedly asked for some communication. When it came it was all a lie... I'm a big boy and can handle the truth, I even told them I understood things happen, life happens, emergencies come up and would be willing to work with them. All I got was lies and shady replys... 1st indication was when I asked who they were and they wouldn't reply....
It would seem that we in this hobby (and this site) have really become bombarded with scams as of late
Yes as well as ebay and more. You just have to really keep your guard up anymore as it seems to be more common. Not really --- Its dealing on the internet in general. Craigslist has had scams like this for years.

I got scammed through pay-pal/ebay a few years ago. I can tell you that if you sell and ship things 1. insure everything and 2. require a signature as proof of delivery every time. Even with a tracking number people can say they didn't get it. And pay-pal will refund there money from your account. I know of three people that have had this happen. All I am saying is use every tool to protect your self. My little mistake cost me 1300.00. They told me it was delivered and someone took it before they got home.eBay has improved over the years, but a lot of that is because they require things to go through paypal.
Was there a police report made, this happened to a package I shipped. The guy did not report it to the police, but hurried and reported it stolen from his front porch to FedEx. FedEx reimburse him and now claims he did not receive the refund either. Nothing was never report to the police or post office. They told me it was delivered and someone took it before they got home.
I will have expensive packages left at the shipping company from now on.Whenever I have something expensive shipped to my home, I make sure someone is going to be here on delivery day.
