Calif Homeowner's Insurance up 42.5% From Last Year

You guys in most of the country have it good, comparitively.

My insurance for my home and detached shop building went up from $2,550 to $3,320 this year. Tornadoes, FIAT-sized hail and the occasional wildfire don't help. We get raped here.

They have a large "help wanted" type sign outside proudly proclaiming a $15 wage.....

YUP a good burger place, but champagne prices

I actually prefer Denny's.

And at that price, it's no contest.

...unless Denny's is now $30.

Look at YOUR budget (does anyone besides me actually track their monthly expenses?), and tell me your expenses have only gone up 3.8%. I dare you.

I figured it out from a screenshot of item increases (meats, gas, poultry, things like that) and I think it was closer to 27%. THAT, is more accurate for most households.

Yeah but is it all due to inflation or also greed?
I'm not saying i trust the official inflation figure, though.

Think about that.

Businesses have been shut down.
Those that are still open, are forced to pay exorbitant wages just to get people to apply. Why? The government has paid people to stay home for 2 years. Why work, when you can take from the government for simply sitting on your fat ***?

Business expenses have skyrocketed. Supply chain shortages. Fuel costs for deliveries that ARE going through. Price of goods and materials are through the roof.

If it costs you more to make the product, and deliver the product, it will cost more to the end user to BUY the product. Doesn't matter what it is.

The government is printing money (literally) with these "recovery" and "stimulus" programs (see above, "paying people to stay home"). What happens when you have more of a particular item, out there in the world?

Each one is worth significantly less.

1 of 1 hemicuda convertibles are worth more than Toyota Camrys, because there are a ****-ton MORE Camry's running around.

Same is true for currency. Put more of it in circulation, each dollar is worth less. That, is called inflation.

Charging more for your product, because it costs you more to produce and provide that product, isn't called "greed".

It is also called "inflation".

News this morning had McD's, BK, Starbucks, Chipotle, and Heinekin ALL going up. Significantly.
Well I guess then one would be impacted by the increases if they patronize those establishments. Seeing as how I, and I bet many others, don't do so, then there is virtually no impact on us what so ever. Seventeen and some change for a burger, fries and drink at 5 Guys??? For that amount I could buy enough ingredients for all that, make my own burger patties, and freeze them along with homemade fries and still have a few dimes left over because I do not drink soda anymore. If those that choose to continue to eat out at those places, try adding up your total costs for say a year and then see how much you are throwing away on what is really junk food. Me??? Homemade and prepared is the only way to go. As for Insurance increases??? I spelled it out in the beginning of this topic so there is nothing further I can add. Except maybe this...Keep shopping annually to see if you can get a better rate even if it means changing you carrier...:usflag::usflag::usflag:

Outback

Sirloin and fried rib combo w/ side with margarita (plus $1 extra shot).
Wife had chicken/shrimp pasta combo w/side and same margarita/shot.

$62

...but was pretty darned good, and we had leftover from hers that we ate last night.

Over $60 is pretty high for us.....normally.

Sorry Joe - but where in the heck did you hear that?? I’m not defending them by any means - but your statement is absolutely completely untrue. I’ll say it again - 35 years with the biggest of them. Jointly setting rates is just not done anywhere in the country. We had to set rates individually and would spend monumental resources trying to get it right - at least for whatever Co I was working for at the time. What we did do was scout every legitimate competitor to us to find out what their current rates were and put ourselves w/I that group. We got our info from the agents/brokers we worked with and also from what the Insurance Dept had to disclose. But the Insurance Dept rates only told us “base rates” nothing about what factors each company applied to those base rates to get their final rate. No company was EVER going to disclose to another what their rates were. I spent half my I’ve engineering this stuff so I do know of what I speak.

There is a lot of BS that flies about what Ins cos do and don’t do by those that really have no idea. Do I like paying these rates - Hell no - but at least I know from where they come.
I responded to your question but Apparently I said something wrong as it is now gone...
I heard an Oregon Congressmen years ago on a radio program announce that this went on.. I guess I can't say his name... He is still a Congressman..
Then on a talk radio show out of Portland OR. had the same topic on one of there shows shortly after I heard the Congressmans 30 minute dissertation about how this should be illegal for insurance companies to do

Yeah I saw your post before it went poof. Even so I can unequivocally assure you that it is illegal and simply isn’t done. If these were politicians my guess they were slinging BS as most politicians do to rile people up toward the carriers as a vote getting scheme. So what else is new - isn’t that what they do?

Now in complete full disclosure - TX carriers all use exactly the same rates at least for personal auto. As I recall the state sets the rates and they have to follow them. From there the carriers have to develop a few marketing gimmicks to attract people to buy their product. It was kind of a strange set-up and I’m not sure if it’s still that way there. I can also tell you the carriers didn’t like it because that left them few ways to differentiate themselves from the competition. Maybe that’s changed now - I don’t know.
